Text reminders: the message people actually see

Email reminders work, but a text lands on the lock screen, where people see it. On Pro, FullDiary sends a text before each appointment as well as the email: 50 texts a month for each person on your plan, with more to buy if you ever need them.

A phone's lock screen the day before an appointment: a text reminder from FullDiary and the reminder email from Marlow Street Barbers

Most people who miss an appointment did not mean to. They booked weeks ago, something else landed on that afternoon, and the booking slipped their mind. A reminder fixes most of that, and the best reminder is the one they actually see.

FullDiary is the online booking system from DocMason for UK appointment businesses. It sends a reminder email before every appointment on every plan, and on Pro it can send a text as well.

How it works

Switch text reminders on under Your shop, Booking rules. From then on, every customer who gave a mobile number gets a text before their appointment, at the same times as the reminder email: the day before, the day before and again two hours before, or two days before and the day before. Texts start switched off because they use your allowance, so nothing is sent until you choose.

You can text someone when you add a booking yourself, too: tick "Send them a confirmation text" in the diary and it goes straight to their phone, from the same allowance.

How many texts you get

Pro includes 50 texts a month for each person on your plan, so a team of four has 200. The allowance starts again on the first of each month. A long message that needs two texts counts as two, and every text shows in your activity log.

Fifty texts is a starting allowance rather than a busy month: a busy one-person shop can take well over a hundred bookings. When the allowance runs out, reminders simply carry on by email. Or buy a pack from Settings, Your plan: 100 texts for £5, 500 for £22.50 or 1,000 for £40. Bought texts never expire and are only used once the month's allowance has gone.

Your dashboard, diary and inbox show a warning when you are down to your last 20 texts, and you get an email when you are running low and another if you run out.

Email and text together

The email still goes with every reminder, text or no text. It carries the calendar entry, directions and the link to move or cancel, so a customer whose plans have changed can give the slot back instead of just not turning up.
