For businesses that go to the customer: mobile valeting, mobile dog grooming, mobile hair and beauty, house calls. Under Your shop, Booking rules, Travel, switch on Charge for travel and set your own policy: a price per mile, how many miles are free first, and, if you like, the furthest you travel for an online booking. Say where you set off from (your base, with its postcode); customers never see it. Turning it on also asks customers for their address when they book. No Travel card? It appears once you ask for addresses, so first switch on "Ask for the customer's address when they book" on the same page.
The charge goes on every online booking once it is on, so it suits a business that goes to every customer. If only some of your work is at the customer's address, add those visits as their own service with its own price instead.
The miles are one way, from where you set off to the customer, by the real driving distance from Google Maps. There is no charge for the journey back, so set your rate with that in mind. The charge is rounded up to the next 10p: at 45p a mile after 3 free miles, a customer 8.3 miles away pays 2.40 GBP. Try an address shows what a customer at any postcode would pay before you save.
On your booking page, customers see your rule from the first step, and once their address has a postcode the travel charge is in their summary before they book. Nobody books without seeing it. Somebody further away than you travel is asked to ring you, and you can still book them in by hand.
The travel charge is part of the price. The confirmation email, their booking page and your alert show it on its own line, and an invoice made from the booking has a Travel line. A deposit is for the service alone, so the travel is paid on the day, or with the rest when the service is paid in full up front. A discount never comes off the travel, and a package covers the service but not the journey.
In the diary, open a booking to see its travel: change it, take it off, or press Work it out to measure it again. When you book someone in by hand, press Work it out under their address, or type the travel in yourself. If the distance cannot be worked out as a customer books, the booking still goes through without a charge and your alert says to add it.
