Trading name or your own name?
Either works as long as the customer can identify you. Put your trading name up top and your legal name in the details, and the invoice is right for the customer and for HMRC.
Bank details every single time
The invoice that says 'ask for payment details' gets paid last. Add your sort code and account number once in Settings and every invoice carries them.
Terms nobody agreed
If no terms were set, UK law treats the invoice as due in 30 days. Better to choose - on receipt, 14 days, 30 days - and print it, so there is no argument later.

Why your accountant can relax

Does a sole trader invoice need a UTR?
No. Your Unique Taxpayer Reference is between you and HMRC; it does not belong on an invoice. Name or trading name, address, invoice number, date, what you did, the price and how to pay are what matters.
What payment terms should I put on it?
Whatever you agreed - and if you agreed nothing, know that the legal default is 30 days. In DocMason the Due box offers on receipt, 7, 14, 21 or 30 days, and you can set your usual terms once in Settings so every new invoice starts with them.
Can I take card payments from my customers?
Yes, on the Growth plan: connect your own Stripe account and the invoice link carries a Pay button. The money goes straight to you and DocMason takes nothing on top.
Is it really free?

Does the AI do the maths?
No, and that is deliberate. The AI reads what you typed; plain deterministic code computes every total, discount and VAT figure in exact pence. AI is good at language and bad at arithmetic, so it only does the first one.
